Career Resources
Purpose
To provide support to those individuals who have lost their jobs, are in danger of losing their jobs, have been unemployed for a long period, are seeking employment for the first time or are seeking to return to the workforce after many years. Our Parish’s Career Enrichment Ministry will work with other ministries within the Parish to assist individuals. The Ministry will offer a variety of workshops and will provide a network of support through individual and group counseling. The Ministry will also provide spiritual support. Meetings will be held in Notre Dame Rectory basement from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

“I Lost my job, What do I do next?” Workshop
General Session -
This general session introduces our program to interested participants and provide an overview of future sessions. Speakers address the question - “I lost my job, what do I do next?”. Parishioners, who were formerly unemployed discuss their experiences and resources that are available from the U.S. Department of Labor and other sources. Internet tools and other resources will be shared with attendees. Career alternatives are discussed including positions within not-for-profit and government agencies. A resource library of information will be available. Best practices are shared as to career alternatives and the most effective way to obtain a new position. Presenters also discuss the importance of maintaining one’s physical, mental and spiritual well-being while searching for a new job. Various techniques for dealing with the stress of unemployment are discussed.
How to Network into a New Job Workshop-
Presenters will share how to effectively network to generate leads and get that new job. Topics will include: networking tools, organizations through which to network, using the internet to network and how to interact with others to effectively network
Resume Workshop
Writing effective resumes, reviewing existing resumes, key facts to include in a resume, cover letters.
Interview Workshop
Experienced interviewers share best practices in how to prepare for and participate in the interview process. The dos and don’ts of interviewing are discussed and role playing will be conducted for those interested. Topics include: how to handle a phone interview, how to prep for an in person interview, how to handle an in person interview and how best to follow up after the interview process.
