Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist The Second Vatican Council established the Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist to assist priests in distributing the Precious Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful during Mass and to reach out to those who are ill, hospitalized or homebound. What a great honor it is for a catholic to have the opportunity to share the Blessed Sacrament with fellow Catholics. Eucharistic Ministers perform the Corporal Works of Mercy by praying for, and with those to whom they minister. If you have a desire to serve the Lord and your fellow parishioners by becoming a Eucharistic Minister, please contact the rectory office for additional information. “For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Ministers of Lector Proclaiming the Word of God is central to the promotion of Catholic faith. Approximately 36 parishioners have committed time and talent to assist the priests of this parish in the Liturgy of the Word. These men and women take on the Ministry of Lector as persons of good faith, eager to serve their fellow Catholics by proclaiming the Scripture readings both at daily and Sunday Masses and on other special occasions and Holy Days. The need to expand the membership of the Lector Ministry is never ending. Please consider joining other members of the parish by sharing your time and talents at Mass as a lector. Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers) Ushers use their personalities, talents and time to welcome parish members and visitors to our liturgical services in a friendly, warm and accepting manner. They also assist the priests and other liturgical ministers in maintaining the sanctity and orderly proceedings of Parish Masses and liturgical events. Ushers set an example for appropriate dress, behavior and conduct. They assist all persons in making their presence at our Church a fulfilling and warm experience. If you attend Mass regularly, why not help make this sacred celebration a family affair by joining out team of ushers? There can never be too many ushers and your kind smile may make all the difference in a parishioner’s or visitor’s desire to come back and celebrate God’s goodness and love.
Ministry of Hospitality (Refreshments) Persons who take pleasure in preparing or serving food and drink may wish to participate in this ministry. The hospitality committee provides refreshments on special occasions throughout the year. If you are interested in this service, please call the rectory office for additional information.
Music Ministry Music has been an integral part of the celebration of the Eucharist since the early church. Talents are welcome in all areas of music ministry, particularly the choir, Leaders of Song and instrumental ensemble. If you feel that you might like to participate in our music ministry, please contact the rectory office for additional information. “Sing joyfully to the Lord all you Lands, serve the Lord with gladness.”-(Psalm 100:1-2)
RCIA For Catechists and Facilitators, teaching experience would be helpful. Adult catechetical courses are suggested. Sponsors will be trained by the R.C.I.A. Team. R.C.I.A. is an ongoing process. There is no set time for a person to begin. The process generally takes about one year and ends at Pentecost. A sponsor might be needed to serve more than one year depending upon length of time a catechumen or candidate might require. Other ministries would last about one year. Since inquirers come to us at any time, we need a group of trained sponsors.
Baptism Are you looking for a meaningful ministry of service? Please give some thought to becoming involved in the immediate preparation for the ceremony of Baptism. The sacrament of Baptism is administered on the first and third Sunday of each month. What a wonderful way to truly welcome new members into our church and our faith. We invite you to consider this opportunity to respond to your own Baptismal call and become a part of a welcoming team that is present for this wonderful sacrament of initiation. Your faith and willingness to welcome the newly baptized will make this day memorable for all involved.
Family Mass What is the Family Mass? Families come in all shapes and sizes. At Family Mass our Notre Dame “families” gather together as one worshipping family. We sing...we pray...we share the Lord’s supper. When is the Family Mass? We gather every Sunday at 9 AM Mass from September until the second Sunday in June.
Why is Family Mass important? “The Christian Communities to which the individual families belong or in which the children live also have a responsibility toward children baptized in the church. By giving witness to the gospel, living familial charity, and actively celebrating the mysteries of Christ, the Christian Community is the best school of Christian and liturgical formation for the children who live in it.” -(Directory for Masses with Children)
How can Families Participate at Family Mass? Actively taking part in Sunday Family Mass connects us with God and one another. Together we raise our voices in prayer and song, we listen to God’s Word, offer gifts of bread and wine and receive the Body and Blood of Jesus in Communion.
We raise our voices... Children in grades 2 and up may join the Children’s Choir. As music ministers the children lead the congregation in songs of praise. Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 in the school cafeteria. Children with proficiency in a musical instrument may join the instrumentalists.
We listen to God’s Word... Children in grades 5 and up are invited to be lectors proclaiming God’s Word. Children come to the altar for the Gospel and the homily
We offer gifts... Members of families set the altar table and present the community’s gifts of bread and wine.
We receive... Family Mass members who are Eucharistic ministers help to distribute Holy Communion.
How do we bring Family Mass home and to others?
