Gloria Boyd (Director Social Ministry) Having worked twenty-three years in administration as Program Director for the Board of Directors of the Long Island Hearing & Speech Society at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Gloria welcomes the opportunity to serve the needs of our parishioners. Certified by Catholic Charities for Parish Social Ministry, she enrolled in the diocesan Pastoral Formation Institute and studies of Pastoral Strategies at Molloy College. Her life experiences working with people suffering from addictions, abuse, grief, divorce, and physical disabilities have prepared her to meet the challenges of this position
Marilyn Brennan (Director of Music) Marilyn directs our Adult and Children Choirs, coordinates rehearsals, plans music for parish liturgies, develops the children's Handbell Choir and plays organ at our weekend Masses, special liturgies, weddings and funerals. Guilmant Organ School honed her musical prowess and Westminster Choir College developed Marilyn's Handbell technique. Marilyn was active on the Brooklyn Diocese Music Commission and served four terms as dean of the American Guild of Organists. Marilyn brings her experience with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and internationally renowned concert organist Virgil Fox. Since 1995 Marilyn has been sharing the rich gift of music with our praying community
Maria Cantasano (Coordinator Youth Ministry) Mrs. Cantasano has been Coordinator of Youth Ministry at Notre Dame Parish since January 1998. She has an Advanced Catechetical Certification, Diocese of Rockville Centre, 1988 and a BA in Theology and an MA in Theology from St. John’s University in 1998. Masters work involved developing a working model for the Bishop’s national document, "Renewing the Vision of Youth Ministry". Youth Minister, St. Barnabas Parish, Bellmore, 1990-1997
S. Mary Jane Coleman, RSM (Director of Religious Education) Sister Mary Jane is a Sister of Mercy of the Dallas, PA. Regional Community. Sister came to Notre Dame in 1992 as Director of Religious Education. She has a Master Degree in Education as well as a Masters in Pastoral Ministry. Sister also completed courses in the Pastoral Institute of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Sister was principal of St. Joseph School, Babylon, as well as being an educator in Rockville Centre and Brooklyn
Rev. Steven Hannafin (Associate Pastor) Father Steve grew up in Valley Stream, NY, one of a family of six boys and one girl. He graduated from St. Pius X High School in Uniondale and from SUNY Binghamton. After training in library science at St. John’s U, he worked in both academic and public libraries. After studying at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, He was ordained a priest in 2001 and served as Associate Pastor of St. Frances de Chantal in Wantagh. Subsequently he worked in the Huntington Seminary’s library, while assisting at St. Dominic Parish in Oyster Bay. Fr. Steve loves music, movies, books, baseball, coffee, bad jokes, a good laugh and has a love/hate relationship with golf
S. Margaret Ann Hartigan, RSM (Pastoral Associate) S. Margaret Ann is a Sister of Mercy from the Brooklyn Regional Community. Sister came to Notre Dame in 2002 as a Pastoral Associate. Sister Margaret Ann has a Masters Degree in Education as well as a Masters in Counseling. Sister is also a 1998 graduate of the Pastoral Formation Institute of the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Sister Margaret Ann has an extensive background in Catholic Education as principal of Our Lady of Mercy Academy and as principal of St. Edward the Confessor School in Syosset. Sister Margaret Ann offers courses in adult education throughout the year
Mrs. Margaret Moss (School Principal) Mrs. Margaret Moss has been in school administration for the past six years. From 1998 through 2001 as Assistant Principal of Notre Dame Parish School and for the last three years as Principal Mrs. Moss taught for six years at Our Lady of Victory School in Floral Park, first in second grade and then in Pre-K. She has taught Junior and Senior High School ELA and hold several NYS teaching certifications on a variety of levels. Mrs. Moss received her undergraduate degree from St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn and her graduate degree from Queens College. Mrs. Moss studied in Fordham University where she received a PD in Administration
Rev. William Slater (Pastor) Father Slater was educated in both Catholic and public elementary and middle schools. In ninth grade Father Slater entered St. Pius X Prep Seminary from which he graduated in 1968. He continued his education for the priesthood by attending College Seminary of the Immaculate Conception and graduate studies in theology at the School of Theology of the same name at Huntington, New York. Father was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 1977. Father Slater taught Sacred Scripture as a faculty member of the Seminary in Huntington. Father Slater was associate pastor of Notre Dame Parish from 1996 until 2007. He became Pastor at Notre Dame in July 2007
